Downtown Grand Junction is proud to announce the newest addition to the staff. Rykel Menor was selected for the Downtown Event Coordinator position in early July out of more than sixty candidates. Menor is a recent Colorado Mesa University graduate who received her Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences in May 2018.

“We had a great pool of candidates for this position, but Rykel’s personality, experience, and desire to learn stood out as attributes that are well matched for the position. We are excited to welcome her to the team and to the Downtown community,” Brandon Stam, Downtown Director stated.

With being involved in many organizations at CMU, including the Program Activity Council, Associated Student Government, and the New Student Orientation program, Menor is looking to bring her knowledge and event planning skills to the community. Menor moved to the Grand Valley to attend CMU in the Fall of 2013 from Riverton, Wyoming.

Menor’s duties involve all aspects of planning the various signature events, such as the Downtown Music Festival, Restaurant Week, Farmers Market, Fourth of July Parade, Tour de Rock, Car Show, Spooktacular, Art Festival, Tree Lighting, and the Parade of Lights, as well as assisting other third party events that are held in the Downtown area.

The Event Coordinator position became vacant when Caitlyn Love, previous Event Coordinator, was promoted to the Marketing and Communications Specialist for Downtown in May 2018. “We’re thrilled to have completed our team here. The events hold a special place for me, and I’m looking forward to passing along what I’ve learned with the events and the community downtown” Love said.

Menor’s first official day with Downtown was Monday, July 16. Downtown Grand Junction is comprised of both the Downtown Development Authority and the Business Improvement District and assists with marketing, communications, events, and capital improvement projects for Downtown Grand Junction.
