The 2019 Downtown Street Beats season is upon us, and we’re excited to open up the call for artists! On this page, you’ll find all the information you need about the program, and the application.
All applications must be submitted by Tuesday, March 26 at 4pm.
Street Beats Information:
This is a call to artists to paint pianos for the 2019 Downtown Street Beats program. Each artist, if selected, will receive $250.00 for their time, art work, and supplies needed for the project*. If selected to be an artist, you will need to have a space to keep the piano to paint until it’s ready to be released on Main Street. The artist will be in charge of picking up the unpainted piano, taking it to its ‘painting location’ and then bringing it Downtown for placement.
It is a requirement that the paint used for the piano is ‘all weather latex’ due to the harsh environment of sun, heat, rain, hail, etc. that the Grand Valley faces in the summer and fall months. The artist will also be required to use a clear coat sealant on the piano in order to keep it looking good!
Each artist selected will be able to coordinate the pickup of their piano, and must be completed with the piano by Monday, May 13.
We’re looking forward to seeing the submissions this year, thank you for your interest!
Any questions, please send us an email at [email protected].
*Payment will be made AFTER the completion of the piano. The selected artist will need to have the ability to purchase paint materials and supplies upfront and then use the compensation from Downtown to reimburse your supplies how you wish.
