Members of the Grand Junction Symphony will use stories and music to introduce youngsters to various percussion instruments at Symphony Storytime, set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library, Fifth Street and Grand Avenue.
In a program designed for pre-school and elementary students, young children will learn about the sounds and history of various percussion instruments and how they are used in the orchestra. Children and their parents are encouraged to attend and ask questions about the instruments, the orchestra, and performing. The event will begin with a few stories accompanied by percussion, followed by a musical demonstration by local percussionist and GJSO musician Rob Labig, a time for questions, and an Instrument Petting Zoo.
Symphony Storytime is a collaboration between the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and the Mesa County Public Libraries. The May 3rd presentation is the final event of its initial offering. More dates are being planned during the summer months and into next fall.
